** Volcanic Glazes !! **
I was fortunate, enough, to acquire the Belleek Ivy
Stump Spill as of late !! It has a miraculous
'Volcanic' glaze on it, as I will phrase it, because
of the Dedham, Massachusetts Pottery tagged their works
with the identical moniker !! The vase on the left was
produced, circa 1900, by the Dedham Pottery works and
is quite highly regarded as some of their BEST works,
for what reason, I know not !! In the case of the
Dedham item, the Pottery owners were striving to
produce a 'flowing' glaze, not unlike liquid lava in
achieving their desired effect, again, I really know
nought !! The Belleek Vase, on the right, is a
WONDERFUL first period example of 'something' that
Belleek was 'testing' ?? If you were to envision it
at a fair, you would think it might be an item of
'Carnival or Depression Glass' !! I sincerely hope that
some of you Belleekers out there can provide additional
information on this 'experiment' ??
A RARE view BOTH the Dedham Vase
(On the left) and
the Belleek Ivy Stump Spill
(On the Right !!)
