Fellow Belleekers !! (lettre # 2.7 HAPPY HOLIDAYS !!)
** I WISH EACH AND EVERY BELLEEKER
THE HAPPIEST OF HOLIDAYS AND
MY BEST WISHES
IN THE COMING NEW YEAR !! **
I would personally like to take a moment to wish each
and every one of my fellow Belleekers out there in
Belleek World, the most joyous of holiday seasons and
my sincere hope for a prosperous New Year !! I would
like to especially thank those at the Pottery, "Without
Which None Is Genuine", of course our leader Angela,
Lisa whom we shall all miss and a splendid welcome for
Charlotte !! And let's not forget George, Angela's
other half without whom, who knows, where the Pottery
might be today !! And of course to ALL of you fellow
Belleekers as we gather together whether it be in
Chapter Meetings, at Conventions, Chicago, over the
telephone, thru mailed correspondence or by any other
means necessary to carry our thoughts and inspirations
to our fellow enthusiasts !!
** YES, THE MILLENNIUM CONVENTION
IS APPROACHING !! **
By now, ALL of you should have your latest Belleek
Collectors' Newsletter by your side which also contains
the complete registration packet for the upcoming
Millennium Convention to be held at the Capitol of the
United States in Washington D.C. !!
Angela is hard at work making sure that no one will
be disappointed in what I know will be a splendid
gathering of Belleekers !!
I will attempt to keep all of you informed thru my
newslettres of ALL the late breaking news surrounding
this magnificent convention with Belleekers in
attendance from all corners of this Earth !! If you
have Internet access, you can keep up to date thru my
web site listed below !!
I have received an interesting lettre from one of our
sister Belleekers up North in the cold Provinces of
Canada whom has already reserved her spot for the
convention !! What was interesting in her lettre
was a note attached stating, and I quote directly,
"Strictly speaking, 1999 shouldn't be called the
Millenium Convention as 1999 is the penultimate, not
the last year, of the current millenium, which doesn't
end until the 12th stroke of midnight, December 31 of
the year 2000!"
O.K. Belleekers, let's see some discussion on this one !!
I have ONLY taken offense to her spelling of millennium,
which I have checked out in several dictionaries and
have so far not been able to find a reference to an
alternate spelling as "millenium" ??
I have also located a fine definition of penultimate :
pe·nul·ti·mate (pi·nul'te·mit) adj. 1. Next to the last.
2. Of or belonging to the next to the last syllable.
- n. A penultimate syllable or part. [< L paene almost +
ULTIMATE, on anthlogy with L paenultimus next to the
O.K. Belleekers, who's going to begin some discussion
on the Belleek 'correctness' of this ??
PERSONALLY, other than being hard to spell, and
penultimate is NO better, I REALLY do like MILLENNIUM !!
** 3rd ANNUAL BELLEEK COLLECTORS' FAIR **
It's BACK in a flash !! Due to popular demand, by ALL
participants, BOTH dealers and buyers, another Belleek
Collectors' Fair is being planned out as this is going
to press !! The dates will be April 16th and 17th,
1999 !! YES, that's correct, JUST FOUR months from
It will again be held down in Portland, Oregon !!
Please contact either :
Lori or Ben Harlan
613 - 10th Avenue
or tele to (425) 828-4247
or E-Mail to firstname.lastname@example.org !!
If you've never attended one of these fairs, it's really
a chance in a lifetime to view and purchase some very
exceptional items of Belleek, many that are very rarely
available !! Like the previous fairs, there were again
items for every collector !! We had items from LOW
double digits all the way up to FIVE figures !!
Friday nite a gala dinner is again planned with the
actual sale beginning Saturday morning and running till
everyone is exhausted !!
Additional information will be available in future
newslettres as well as on my web site, below, as it
becomes available !!
** WHAT'S AHEAD FOR US THIS COMING YEAR ??
I hope to be bringing you addition informatiion on ALL
fronts as the Millennium Convention nears !!
The World Wide Unofficial Chapter is planning to have
another unofficial get together in Chicago !!
We hope to have at LEAST one new chapter in our ranks
by mid year !!
Of course the Collector's Fair in Portland !!
Personally, I hope to begin a series on, what I consider
to be the most spectacular Belleek item ever crafted,
the Prisoner of Love !! A very good friend of mine,
again from up North in Canada, has done quite a bit of
research on Her and between the two of us we hope to
finally have the story correct !! Or, if not totally
correct, at least a wonderful tale !!
If ANY of you Belleekers out there have ANY ideas or
questions for me, PLEASE don't hesitate to drop me a
line !! I REALLY appreciate all your input !!
And LAST BUT NOT LEAST George is going to handcraft,
by himself, 500 Chinese Tea Ware Trays for us all !!
THREE BIG HURRAYS for George !!
** WELL, I FINALLY FOUND ONE !! **
Yes, it's the infamous Bushmills Whiskey Barrel !!
I REALLY don't know much about this item other than,
from what I've been told, it was supposedly given out
as a gift when one purchased a bottle, probably a fifth
or liter, of these fine spirits !! I also don't know
if it was distributed outside of the United Kingdom ??
Possibly, one of our members who is a connoisseur of
this fine beverage will provide us with additional
information ?? As you can see from the ruler I placed
in the background, this item is rather small, actually
only about 2 inches in height !! I would say that this
would classify it as a 'crested' miniature ??
