Belleek
Newslettre (# 10.1)
** HAPPY
NEW YEARS !!
Well, this year is
flying by so far, and
with a full calendar of events
scheduled
in the upcoming
months, I wish
all
Belleekers
the best of health and prosperity in
the
New Year.

discouvered that Google STILL has

EXERCISE !!
I came across this
exercise suggested for
us seniors, to build muscle strength in
the arms and shoulders. It seems so easy,
so I thought I'd pass
it on. The article
suggested doing it three days a week.
Begin by standing on a comfortable surface,
where you have plenty
of room at each side.
With a
5-lb. potato sack in each hand,
extend your arms straight out from your
sides, and hold them there as long as
you can. Try to reach
a full minute,
then relax. Each day, you'll find that
you can hold this position for just a bit
longer.
After
a couple of weeks, move up to 10-lb.
potato sacks. Then 50-lb. potato sacks,
and then eventually try to get to where
you can lift a 100-lb.
potato sack in each
hand and hold your arms straight for more
than a full minute.
Once you feel
confident at that level,
put a potato in each of the sacks.

with
ANY Belleekers during the Fair !!
** ODD OR
EVEN ??
From the Phobia List
we discouver that the
fear of Numbers is either Arithmophobia or
Numerophobia !! Unfortunately, they don't
distinguish between odd and even numbers ??
Has
your decorator ever mentioned to you
that displays with ODD number of items per
shelf apparently appeared more aesthetic
to the human eye ?? Well, lately, I've
been obsessed with creating that 'perfect'
look in each of my china cabinet shelves
by rearranging my Museum with the proper
display of an odd number of items per shelf !!
IT'S NOT EASY !!
My
phobia is so intense, that in the past,
I've gone so far as to
call my Credit Card
Company and reported a stolen card in hopes
that the replacement card will be an EVEN
number instead of the issued ODD number they
sent me !! Now, that's paranoid !!
SO, is
that why we have valance over our
curtains ?? To 'complete' that odd look ??
**
UPCOMING CONVENTION ??
Speaking of which,
Angela has made an
OFFICIAL announcement that our next
Convention will be the 150th. Anniversary
of the Pottery Convention to be held at
the Belleek Pottery in 2007 !! It is
currently slated to be a SPRING convention,
tentatively scheduled for April of that year !!
SO, it's ONLY a bit more than a Year away
now, as time is FLYING !! It's time to start
making arrangements !! And for those of
you whom are
persistent procrastinators,
like myself, we had best begin packing !!
Editor's
Note : I've begun to Update my
Web Site with relevant Convention information,
as it becomes available !!
** CLEAN
AND FRESH !!
I don't know if
anyone else discouvered this
prior to me, BUT, if you attempt
to
dispose
of all your organic wastes in your kitchen
disposal, like I do, here's a hint for you !!
I had
found that I had banana peels,
shrimp
shells and onion skins just bouncing around in
my disposal and NOT
being ground up properly
and going down the drain !!
In a moment
of
genius, a flash came to me !! I dumped a
couple of cups of ICE CUBES into my disposal
and BINGO, as the ice was ground up, it, in
turn, ground up EVERYTHING else remaining !!
WONDERFUL
!! AND, it left my
disposal totally clean
and fresh smelling !!
** E-BAY
WOES !!
A City Policeman went
up to a vendor
selling toys and said, "I'm sorry, you
can't sell that stuff without a license."
The
peddler replied, "I knew I wasn't
selling any, but I didn't know the reason."
** A
BELLEEK BASKET !!
Speaking of E-Bay, I
was the fortunate
High Bidder of this lovely Flowered Small
Oval Basket !! When my newest Basket
arrived, I had my doubts as it appeared
to have NO glaze on it ??
I
placed it in its place of honour in one
of my cabinets that I had rearranged to
accommodate it, BUT as I continued to stare
at it throughout the day, I become more and
more displeased with my purchase !!
FINALLY,
in desperation, I removed my new
Basket from the
cabinet and placing a
folded towel in my
kitchen sink,
softly
placed the Basket on the towel !!
I then
proceeded to spray my Basket with
a
heavy coat of Fantastic, a kitchen cleaner !!
After waiting a
reasonable amount of time,
utilizing my sink
faucet sprayer, I
completely rinsed my Basket
off with warm
water, revealing a MARVELOUS
sheen !!
Editor's
Note : Be VERY cautious when
'washing' your Belleek
with ANY liquid or
solvent, as MOST
commercial liquids
manufactured today
contain some sort of
petroleum distillate,
i.e., a GREASE CUTTER !!
UNFORTUNATELY, these
chemical grease
cutters,
will ALSO cut thru, i.e., dissolve, MOST
acrylic and porcelain repairs !!
When I
removed my Basket, following its
bath, not too much to
my surprise, there
was THE BLACKEST RING
on the towel,
where
the foot of my Basket had been resting !!
I then
rinsed the towel out thoroughly and
repeated the cleansing
process an additional
several times !!
Following each rinse, my
newest treasure
appeared to glow more
abundantly !!
Following
one last exhaustive warm water
rinse, I then dried
off my acquisition, with
an electric hair
dryer, and placed my
jewel
safely back in its place of honour !!

Note : For those Belleekers,
whom
are members of the Belleek Collectors'
International Society, you may wish to refer
to our publication, The Belleek
Collector,
Volume 1, Number 3/4, 1990, Christmas Double
Issue !! There is a SPLENDID article on a
pair of fairly recent 3 Strand Baskets,
the
Clematis and Hawthorne Baskets !!
A
Beautiful Example of the Small Oval Basket !!
Note the Exquisite Flowering !!
